Title
Cooke Office Building - 1887
Description
The Cooke Office Building is a Victorian example of second empire architecture. It includes a mansard roof and an asymmetrical plan popular at that time.
Built in 1887 by Rice P. Cammack. Originally used as a hotel it was integral to the history of Louisa. It was built on the site of earlier Ordinaries reaching into the eighteenth century. The hotel barely missed destruction by the fire in 1888. William Cooke bought the building in 1959 and it was renovated in 2006.
