Title
Lucy Taylor's last picture at Westend
Subject
Westend Farm 20th Century
Description
Lucy Taylor, the only remaining unmarried daughter who inherited a life interest in Westend, is pictured here as an octogenarian in September of 1955. She is seated in the middle, fixing her headband. She ran Westend with the help of her sister, Nancy Taylor, for over fifty years. Lucy was listed as the head of the household in every census after her father passed away in 1914.
In the years leading up to this photograph, Lucy wrote to different people, mentioning repeatedly that the house was "dropping to pieces." One winter, she wrote that she had only had four fires. It is evident that Lucy was tough, and it was only a broken hip in the next year, 1956, that could take her from Westend and into the hospital.
