Description
Physical and mental requirements for service were, and still are, important to the military – as they help to determine how a person will fit into a certain role and the likelihood of success in that field. Physical combat is not the only aspect to war, as there are many administrative and logistical positions to be filled as well. Joseph Porter, of Louisa County, received his physical examination in late 1942 with the hopes of being appointed for service. The results of his examination show he was slightly overweight, in need of minor dental work, and required a few vaccinations; he was approved for acceptance and service in the same year.
