Title
Mining Stock Certificate
Subject
Mineral City Mining, Manufacturing and Land Co.
Description
This stock certificate certified that P.P. Porter owned ten shares of stock in the Mineral City Mining, Manufacturing and Land Company. He bought each of these shares at a price of one hundred dollars. Stocks such as this one ensured capital for the mining industry along Contrary Creek. This stock was sold to Porter on March 24, 1891. By this time, the mines were experiencing the hardships of a changing economy, with the competition of Spanish ore and inability to wash their tailings. Stocks such as this one would have been sold to help ail their economic shortfalls towards the turn of the century. However, the mines eventually failed, with nearly all closing by World War I.
