Description
This is a letter from B.O. James, Secretary of the Commonwealth, to P.B. Porter, Clerk of the Louisa County Court, written on July 13, 1914. It acknowledges a certificate that 304 citizens of Louisa County have voted for State Wide Prohibition. This was likely a part of the Virginia Dry Vote in 1914. The sale of liquor was banned in Virginia in 1916. However, prohibition did not become nationally recognized until 1919.
