Description
During the Jim Crow era every area of life was segregated. In many ways, two parallel universes existed in the South and in Central Virginia; one white and one black. Since agriculture was vitally imporant to white and black farmers in Louisa County, segregated 4-H clubs flourished across the county.
These photographs are images of girls and boys of the Negro 4-H Clubs in Louisa County i inthe late 1950s and early 1960s. The images were taken by Christine Thomasson who came from Roanoke to Louisa County in the early 1950s and supervised the clubs across the county.
